Client Overview
The client is the Indian trading arm of a multi-national automation company with presence in Americas, Europe, China, Japan and Asia Pacific. The client imports products from their manufacturing base in Japan and markets them in India through dealers and retailers or directly. The client has plans of procuring products in India and marketing them as well.
Business Challenges
The client was using an accounting software called ‘Tally’ to meet their IT requirements. To be in line with other group companies, the client decided to replace ‘Tally’ with JD Edwards’ E8.10 ERP package. Another IT vendor was involved in implementing JD Edwards 8.10 in the group companies in Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia. SYSTIME’s task was to rollout the JD Edwards 8.10 for the client’s business and implement complex India localization requirements.

Key challenges faced during implementation
- Identification and determining the impact of the right Electronic Software Updates (ESU) pertaining to localization
- Unavailability of the fix / decision by Oracle to postpone or not to develop the fix
- Single JD Edwards 8.10 instance covering the business requirements of multiple countries (four)
- Most of the standard programs such as sales order entry, pick slip, purchase receiving, etc. were already customized by the other IT vendor
- For the newly recommended custom codes, the other IT vendor was willing to incorporate only the business function plug-ins instead of many lines of code changes
- Advanced pricing feature, which is critical for India localization, was not working because of the customizations in sales order entry program
- Complex excise invoice printing requirement.
