Client Overview
The client is a leading pipeline transmission company based in USA. It owns and operates a 411-mile interstate natural gas pipeline that extends from the U.S. - Canadian border at Waddington, New York, to the Bronx, New York.
Business Challenges
The client needed an upgrade from their older version of JD Edwards Xe and their unsupported Windows operating system. Their major pain points centered around what they could not do: they could neither use the robust web features of JD Edwards EnterpriseOne® nor keep up with the latest hardware enhancements available in the market to support their business demands. With their old system unable to provide new functionality, the business side, especially purchasing, experienced stagnation, and sought enhancements in their processing function.
The client also experienced performance degradation that affected their Citrix systems. Due to the age of their current release and technical infrastructure, there were multiple ESUs and updates that needed to be applied to maintain code currency. The client chose a JD Edwards Enterprise One® release upgrade to support their growing business requirements. The biggest challenge was to ensure minimum downtime, as even a day's delay could lead to significant financial losses.
Solution Highlights
SYSTIME not only upgraded the client from their JD Edwards Xe SP22 to JD Edwards Tools Release 8.97® on JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 8.12®, but also upgraded their MS SQL 2000 to SQL 2005. It was one of Oracle’s first clients to be upgraded to JD Edwards Tools Release 8.97. With SYSTIME’s
comprehensive upgrade methodology, the upgraded systems were up and running in less than 24 hours of go live, with no interruptions.
SYSTIME recognized that one of the key features the new system needs to deliver is to be easily accessible via the web. Consequently, the new solution eliminated the slow and cumbersome Citrix solution, in which users had to go through a lot of steps to get connected, invariably slowing down work every morning (log in IDs getting stuck and users having to contact the help desk, etc.) Jettisoning their Citrix system resulted not only in
cost savings, but also improved the speed of work. SYSTIME’s solution also provided remote access to Iroquois’ six locations between Canada and New York, enabling users to run off one web server with access from any home office.
