Cognos Integration with JD Edwards EnterpriseOne
Business Need
The Note Printing Press of a major Federal Reserve Bank has implemented JD Edwards EnterpriseOne as their ERP system. EnterpriseOne provides a generic report-writing tool called ERW. It is geared towards transactional reporting and not analytics. As there is no semantic layer (like a catalog), report builders must figure out tables and connections between them. It is very IT-centric and 'Power User' oriented. Moreover, 'Digital Dashboard' style reporting for Senior/Corporate Management is not available.

Solution
Cognos PowerPlay and Impromptu provided the following advantages:

  • Time-Series based reporting
  • Pre-built catalogs made reporting user friendly, without the need to know the exact database structures and relationships
  • OLAP structures called 'Cubes' enabled multi-dimensional analysis
  • Seamless integration of Cognos tools provided easy 'Digital Dashboard' style reporting for Corporate Management.

The above integration of Cognos with JD Edwards EnterpriseOne continues to be enhanced. Cognos has been integrated for analytical and transactional reporting on the following EnterpriseOne modules:

  • Manufacturing
  • Finance
  • Sales & Distribution
  • Treasury.

The client has multiple locations and is now considering the role out of the web (browser based) versions of all Cognos tools, so that analysis and reporting functionality may be offered to remote users.
