Challenges
Top Upgrade Challenges
Your upgrade needs the guidance of someone experienced in helping enterprises derive the maximum value from JD Edwards. Our deep and wide experience has helped us delineate a few common challenges that enterprises typically face while going through an upgrade. Our experts assess your enterprise’s specific needs and help you prioritize your upgrade components appropriately.
Limited insight into the potential of upgrade
This is one of the bigger challenges of a typical upgrade. Upgrade planners need to possess a clear understanding of the scope of the current set of applications and how it can change with the new release. Not having this insight could mean missed cutovers and unrealized opportunities to improve the application functionality and benefits.
Solution: As a part of our proprietary SYS-on-Time™ Methodology, we conduct a Project Strategy Workshop wherein detailed planning and scoping is done and a clear upgrade process is defined along with timelines.
High level of customization and lack of documentation
Itemizing existing customizations to the system and determining plans on handling them is a critical task and should be a part of the upgrade planning process. In addition, the lack of proper documentation often proves to be a major hindrance.
Solution: Our experienced consultants help enterprises determine which customizations to retire, which to keep, which to update, and which to replace with new functionalities. Intensive retrofit analysis has helped our customers in reducing customizations, making their applications future-ready. As a part of our assessment process, our consultants deep dive into your system and create the necessary documentation, and ultimately eliminate customizations by replacing them with standard functionalities and workarounds.
Limited understanding of functionalities, tools and technologies
Lack of experience, combined with a lack of real information upgrade is the undoing of any upgrade plan. Here are some essentials that go into planning for a successful upgrade:
- Information on what new functionality you will implement in the next release
- Knowing which customizations you will be able to retire and which ones you will be forced to retain
- Understanding how the new application will change your core business processes
- Knowing what new technology will you need to implement to make the upgrade a success
- Identifying what upgrade tools you will need to learn to successfully upgrade
- A complete understanding of the upgrade process.
Solution: SYSTIME’s proprietary Upgrade Assessment Pack (UAP) has been designed based on our vast experience in JD Edwards consulting. UAP arms you with critical information and an accurate assessment of your need to upgrade. In addition, it delineates a roadmap for the upgrade comprising timelines along with procedures that must be followed before an upgrade. UAP significantly increases the success rate of a project and ensures faster ROI.
Finding the right resources to staff the upgrade
Perhaps the most critical challenge while going through a JD Edwards upgrade. Our experience tells us that the kind of people you choose to staff your upgrade initiative with have a direct impact on all the outcomes of your investment.
Solution: SYSTIME’s highly-experienced technical and functional consultants continuously upgrade their skills and ensure that your enterprise derives maximum value from the upgrade.
